Experience the Best: Quality Products, Exceptional Service
For nearly five generations, the Robbins family has been an integral part of the Oxford community. Beginning with a humble gas station and repair shop in 1937, their entrepreneurial spirit led them to diversify into various businesses, including a bus company, construction company, road building company, and even a house moving company during the construction of the Buffumville Dam in the early 1950s. Robbins Sand and Gravel, a thriving sand and gravel pit on Old Webster Road in Oxford, stood as a testament to their dedication to serving local needs.
Recognizing the changing needs of their community, the Robbins family established greenhouses at their garage location on Sutton Avenue in the 1970s, offering flowers and animal feed to the numerous local farms. This natural progression paved the way for the creation of Robbins Garden Center in the early 1980s, catering to the gardening and horticulture needs of the region.
As the years progressed, the Robbins Garden Center evolved, becoming a one-stop shop for all gardening essentials. From an impressive selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees to a comprehensive range of sod, insecticides, fertilizers, garden supplies, and yard ornaments, Robbins Garden Center has it all. Building upon their legacy as providers of essential resources, they also expanded to offer a variety of New England mulches, available by the truckload or in convenient bags. Robbins recognizes the needs of both the human and animal communities, and therefore also offers provisions for bird feeding, animal care, and supplies for chicken and horse owners.
From Firewood to Wood Pellets: A Focus on Sustainable Heating Solutions
The Robbins family witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of soaring oil prices in the early 1990s. Determined to provide affordable and eco-friendly heating alternatives to the community, they invested in a wide range of heating solutions, including wood, wood pellets, corn, bio products, and coal. This pivotal decision led to the birth of Robbins Stove Shop, showcasing a full showroom of alternate fuel heating stoves.
Robbins' commitment to excellence extended beyond product selection. Their dedicated staff underwent extensive training and certification, becoming experts in recommending, installing, and repairing stoves. This expertise propelled Robbins to become the largest dealer of alternate fuel heating stoves in New England. The seasonal nature of the "Stove Shop" products seamlessly complemented the springtime needs of homeowners and landscapers, further solidifying Robbins' position as a trusted local business with deep community ties.
Today, the Robbins family continues to operate the garden center and stove shop with the same dedication and passion that has characterized their endeavors for generations. Their legacy is built on a foundation of hard work, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serving their customers.
Generations of Community Service
Robbins' immediate family has now grown to encompass over 50 members, many of whom have contributed their time and talent to the family businesses at some point in their lives.
