Our History

Kern Lawn and Landscape is a family-owned and operated business that was born in the Merriam Park neighborhood of Saint Paul. Founded by Jerome "Pappy" Kern, the company has deep roots in the community, with all five of the Kern brothers mowing lawns and attending local schools. Pappy Kern raised his sons with a blue-collar work ethic, passing down his mechanical knowledge and indefatigable spirit.

In 1984, Pappy Kern planted the first seed of the Kern Lawn and Landscape business when he bought his oldest son a small lawn mower. From that single lawn mower, the roots of the business have grown for decades. Today, Kern Lawn and Landscape is one of the most respected and knowledgeable lawn care and landscape companies in the Twin Cities.
