OUR FAMILY TRADITION OF QUALITY CONTINUES
Our History and Family Tradition
Since 1898, the Leider family has been dedicated to the flower business, with a rich history that spans four generations. Michael Leider, Sr. emigrated from Luxembourg and started growing fresh vegetables in Chicago. He later shifted to growing potted flowers and plants, expanding the business with his son, Michael Martin Leider, in the 1930s. The company continued to grow, with the third generation entering the business in the early 1960s. By the 1970s, Leider Greenhouses expanded into several states and invested heavily in automation, pioneering the concept of "Interior Landscape" in the horticultural industry.
Innovations and Achievements
In 1963, the company ventured into interior plant rentals, forming Tropical Plant Rentals, Inc., which grew to become the largest interiorscaper in the United States. The company operated 30 retail locations at its peak but decided to focus on core production in 1998. Today, the fourth generation, Mark and Mary Leider, lead the management team, with fifth-generation family members Kit Leider Pierri and Elizabeth Leider also involved. The business remains committed to producing high-quality plants while being environmentally friendly through its recirculation of water and fertilizer systems.
