History of Victoria County Master Gardeners

The VCMGA was established to bring together individuals with a passion for gardening and a desire to contribute to their community. Over the years, our members have worked tirelessly to create beautiful and sustainable gardens, provide educational programs, and engage in various community projects. Services Offered

The VCMGA offers a variety of services designed to enhance the lives of our members and the community at large. These include:

• Educational Programs: We provide regular workshops, training sessions, and presentations on topics such as gardening techniques, plant care, and environmental conservation. Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to create and maintain their own beautiful gardens.

• Victoria Educational Gardens (VEG): Our flagship project, the VEG, is a stunning example of what can be achieved through dedication and hard work. This garden serves as a living classroom, providing a hands-on learning environment for both children and adults. The VEG is open daily from dawn to dusk and admission is free, making it accessible to everyone in the community.

• Plant Sales: Throughout the year, we host plant sales featuring a wide variety of plants suitable for local climates and conditions. These events not only provide an opportunity for individuals to purchase high-quality plants but also serve as a platform for our members to share their knowledge and expertise with the community.

• Community Projects: The VCMGA is actively involved in various community projects aimed at promoting environmental conservation and sustainable living. These initiatives include the Paver Project, which supports the construction of new pathways and garden features within the VEG, and our annual Scholarship program, which recognizes outstanding students pursuing higher education in fields related to horticulture and natural resources.

• Lunch and Learn with the Masters: This monthly series features presentations by local experts on various topics related to gardening and environmental conservation. • VEG Tours: We offer guided tours of the VEG, providing visitors with an in-depth look at the various gardens and features within this unique space. These tours are an excellent way for individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the VEG and the work of the VCMGA.

• Paver Project: This ongoing initiative supports the construction of new pathways and garden features within the VEG. By purchasing a personalized paver, individuals can contribute to the growth and development of this valuable community resource while leaving a lasting legacy in the garden.
