Business Details
MGATC began in 1988, building a foundation of horticultural expertise that continues to grow. Our organization comprises approximately 110 dedicated members who span a wide range of gardening interests. Membership requires completion of the Purdue Master Gardener Program training and the fulfillment of volunteer hours within our gardens or community projects. We host monthly meetings that feature guest speakers and host public workshops on a variety of gardening topics throughout the year. Our goal is to provide reliable, sciencebased horticultural information to the residents of Tippecanoe County. We maintain demonstration, display, and idea gardens that serve as living classrooms for visitors.
The gardens are situated behind the new Humane Society for Greater Lafayette, offering accessible learning opportunities for all. Community outreach projects such as canal park gardens, memorial gardens, and invasive species removal demonstrate our commitment to enhancing local green spaces. We also collaborate with institutions like the Lilly Nature Center, providing docent training and educational tours. Our volunteer efforts extend to state fairs, county fairs, and Habitat for Humanity projects, reinforcing our role as a community partner. We remain dedicated to fostering sustainable gardening practices and ensuring client satisfaction through transparency and expertise.

Services
Master Gardener Training
Our Master Gardener Training equips volunteers with advanced horticultural knowledge through a rigorous curriculum developed by Purdue University. Participants gain handson experience in soil science, pest management, and sustainable landscape design, allowing them to serve their communities effectively. Upon completion, members become certified experts who can lead workshops, consult homeowners, and mentor new gardeners.
Public Workshops
We organize monthly public workshops covering diverse gardening topics, from native plant selection to composting techniques. These interactive sessions empower participants with practical skills and encourage sustainable practices in their own yards. Expert speakers from Purdue and local horticulture leaders share uptodate research and proven techniques.
Demonstration Gardens
Our demonstration gardens showcase bestpractice landscaping, featuring native plants, pollinator habitats, and lowmaintenance designs. Visitors can tour these plots to observe effective planting techniques and learn how to replicate them at home. Seasonal tours are available by appointment, allowing groups to engage with our knowledgeable staff and receive tailored advice.
Community Projects
We coordinate community garden plots, invasive species removal, and memorial gardens across Tippecanoe County. These projects foster neighborhood collaboration, promote biodiversity, and provide accessible green spaces for residents. Our volunteers, including Master Gardeners and local residents, dedicate hours to design, plant, and maintain these areas.
Docent Services
We offer docent training for institutions such as the Lilly Nature Center, equipping guides with expert horticultural knowledge. Our trained docents lead educational tours, explaining plant biology, ecosystem roles, and sustainable practices to visitors. This service enhances visitor engagement and supports institutions in delivering sciencebased environmental education.
