Nurturing green spaces for a healthier community

The Marion County Master Gardener Association (MCMGA) is a non-profit organization founded to promote good gardening practices and community development through gardening. Our mission is to educate and empower Marion County residents to grow their own food, conserve water, and protect the environment. With the guidance of Purdue University Cooperative Extension, we strive to foster a community of garden enthusiasts, providing resources and support to help individuals and organizations succeed in their gardening endeavors.

Our History

The MCMGA was established in the mid-1970s, building on the legacy of the Indiana Master Gardener program. Our organization has since grown to become a leading authority on gardening in Marion County. Our dedicated members, comprised of expert gardeners and enthusiasts, collaboratively work to promote sustainable gardening practices, share knowledge, and celebrate the joys of gardening.

Programs and Services

The MCMGA offers a wide range of programs and services designed to benefit the local community. Our Master Gardener program provides training and certification for individuals interested in sharing their gardening expertise and giving back to their community. We also offer regular gardening classes, workshops, and events that cater to gardeners of all levels. For the benefit of our members, we provide a membership directory, newsletter, and online resources, including our website and social media channels.

Gardening Education Grant

As part of our commitment to community development, we offer the MCMGA Gardening Education Grant. This grant aims to support youth gardening education initiatives that help sustain hunger-relief efforts in Marion County. Eligible not-for-profit organizations involved in farming, community gardens, food pantries, food desert initiatives, and nutrition programs can apply for funds to support their projects.

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We, the MCMGA, recognize the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all our endeavors. We strive to create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive to all individuals, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities, age, or national origin. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is rooted in the principles of Purdue University's Diversity Statement.
