Our History

David Erwin, a seasoned landscape designer and contractor, founded North State Gardens in 1982. With decades of experience and a solid reputation in the industry, David built a company that has since become synonymous with quality, reliability, and dedication to customer satisfaction. In 1992, David's son, Matthew, joined the company full-time, bringing with him a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from NC State University. Matthew learned every aspect of the business from his father and eventually moved into management. Today, Matthew is a North Carolina Licensed Landscape Contractor, North Carolina Licensed Irrigation Contractor, an ICPI Certified Installer of Interlocking Pavers, and a certified Segmental Retaining Wall Installer.
