Blakely & Associates Landscape Architects & Planners, Inc. has a rich history that spans over a century. The company was founded by Harry Kelsey, who was a successful restaurateur, who sold his holdings in Boston to purchase land in Florida in the late 19th century. Kelsey wanted to create a community of upscale residences and employed the firm of Olmstead and Olmstead in Brookline, Massachusetts to design the master plan. This marked the beginning of the firm's history in Florida. S.J. (Sam) Blakely, a talented estate gardener from the Boston area, was employed by Kelsey to design the parks for the new town and set up a nursery to provide foliage for the public areas. Sam Blakely later became the president of Kelsey City Landscape and Nurseries Company Inc. in 1926.

Over the years, the company has had three generations of the Blakely family involved in the business. James Blakely, the son of Sam Blakely, followed in his father's footsteps and became a landscape architect and planner. He was responsible for designing some of the most luxurious estates in Palm Beach and won numerous awards for his work. Jeff Blakely, the son of James Blakely, joined the family business and co-founded Blakely & Associates Landscape Architects and Planners, Inc. in 1977. Under Jeff's leadership, the company expanded its services to include land planning, management, and construction detailing.
