H&E Sod Nursery has been serving the needs of landscape professionals, golf course superintendents, and homeowners for more than six decades. Our story began in the winter of 1946 when Fred Ehrich, one of the founders of the company, approached his son-in-law Carl Habenicht to start up a sod farm. Their humble beginnings included 15 acres of common bluegrass, which they planted and sold to Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Illinois. From these modest roots, H&E Sod Nursery was born.

Over the years, we have grown to become one of the leading providers of turfgrass products in the industry. Our sod farm spans over 800 acres, where we cultivate the best of bluegrasses, bentgrasses, and fescues. We take pride in our reputation for providing high-quality products and dedicated service.

Vacuum Cooling

Vacuum cooling is a fast and energy-efficient method for chilling food and extending its shelf life. We have adapted this technology to extend the shelf life of our turfgrass products. By placing our turf in a vacuum chamber, we can reduce the temperature and prevent bacteria from growing, effectively increasing the shelf life of our products.
