Who We Are

Campo di Fiori is a specialty nursery dedicated to the art of naturalistic planting design. We are passionate about creating a unique and dynamic selection of herbaceous ornamental plants that inspire a deeper connection with nature. Our goal is to inspire imagination in the art of garden creation, respecting the dynamic beauty and emotion of nature.

Our Approach

We carefully select plants that embody a more natural and wild aesthetic, with a focus on hardy, robust-growing, and low-maintenance plants. Our sales approach is hands-on, and we strive to help customers understand the plants in our nursery from both an ecological and design perspective. We believe that a well-designed garden should not only be beautiful but also sustainable and beneficial to the ecosystem.

Our Display Gardens

Our display gardens are more than just a showcase for the natural beauty of plants. They are a place of ongoing experimentation in designing with them. Our gardens are a work-in-progress, reflective of the ever-changing seasons and our ongoing quest for new inspiration. We invite you to explore our three distinct display gardens: the Perennial Meadow, Deschampsia Meadow, and Carex Woodland Meadow.

Perennial Meadow

Our Perennial Meadow is the largest display garden, featuring a diverse selection of plants with strong and long-lasting structures. This garden is artistically juxtaposed in an informal, open-border, matrix-style planting, with a focus on creating a meadow-like atmosphere. Explore the front and back of the garden, discovering the unique beauty of each plant and the relationships between them.

Deschampsia Meadow

Our Deschampsia Meadow is a minimalistic matrix-type planting that mimics a meadow or open habitat. This garden is dominated by the native ornamental grass, Deschampsia caespitosa 'Bronzeschlier', along with other perennials such as Rudbeckia maxima and Digitalis ferruginea.

Carex Woodland Meadow

Our Carex Woodland Meadow is an example of a matrix-type planting for dry semi-shade. This garden features the ornamental sedge, Carex muskingumensis, as the primary plant, creating a woodland meadow-like atmosphere. Our Carex Woodland Meadow is a unique example of a shade garden adapted to our increasingly dry summers and heavily forested Maine landscape.

Our Philosophy

At Campo di Fiori, we believe that a garden is not just a collection of plants but a living, breathing entity that requires a deep understanding of ecology, biology, and botany. We strive to create a sense of wonder and awe in those who visit our gardens, inspiring imagination and creativity in the art of garden creation. Join us on a journey of discovery, where the boundaries between nature and art blur, and the beauty of the natural world is celebrated.
