Growing a greener future, one sod roll at a time.
At Country Garden Farms, we're dedicated to preserving Alaska's farmland for generations to come. Our mission is to provide high-quality products, grown using sustainable practices, to our customers. We strive to make our products accessible at fair prices, with the flexibility to meet your unique needs.
Our Products
We offer a range of products designed to meet the specific needs of Alaska's unique climate and soil conditions. Our products include:
Turfgrass Sod
Our Nugget/Kenai Kentucky Bluegrass turf is designed to thrive in Alaska's unpredictable weather conditions. Our turf is grown in accordance with Turfgrass Producers International specifications, ensuring its quality and consistency. We offer small rolls (2' by 5') and large rolls (2' by 50') to suit your needs.
Erosion Control and Forage Sod
Our erosion control and forage sod products are designed to help prevent soil erosion and promote healthy soil quality. Our hardy mixed grasses are perfect for hillsides and large areas. We also offer mixed grasses for forage, ideal for small areas.
Compost and Manure Pick-up
Our compost program takes local horse owners' refuse and transforms it into a valuable garden resource. By utilizing local resources, we create high-quality compost from horse manure.
How to Order
To reserve sod for your project, please provide us with the following information:
- How many square feet you need
- Which format you prefer (small rolls or large rolls)
- Where you need it (pick-up in Anchorage or Palmer, or delivery)
- When you'll be ready for the sod (approximate date)
- How you'd like to pay for your order
Pallet Information
For orders over 400 square feet, we load small rolls onto pallets to make pickup and delivery more efficient. You don't need to purchase full pallets; we price by the square foot or by the roll.
Pricing and Delivery
We strive to meet all order requests, but please call ahead to confirm availability. We request at least two days' notice to harvest and deliver your order. Sod is perishable, so we stock only what our customers need, and sometimes we may not be able to fill your entire order at the last minute.
Installation and Maintenance
For best results, ensure you have 4-6" of quality topsoil. Rake and roll the surface until firm and graded for drainage. Schedule your sod delivery or pickup, usually a minimum of two days in advance. Lay out sod rolls in a staggered, brick pattern, and snug edges together firmly.
Soil Preparation
For best results, sod needs 4" to 6" of topsoil. Compacted soils are too hard to allow roots to penetrate, and loose soil makes an uneven lawn. Around walkways, driveways, and other borders, make sure to bring the surface of the soil to around 3/4" below the border.
Fertilizer and Soil Testing
Annual soil testing is recommended to bring pH and fertility to optimum levels. We recommend annual testing and the application of fertilizer and lime as needed. Consult with a fertilizer retailer or the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service for guidance.
Overall Experience
The reviews demonstrate an exceptional experience at the company, with a 5-star rating from Angela Nu'Uvali. She praises the entire team, from Katie in the Palmer office to the staff at the raspberry location.
